New Kid

New Kid (2019) is a graphic novel depicting the stressors of being in middle school and being different. The main character Jordan Banks, a 12-year-old Black boy, attends a prestigious school for “gifted” students. There he feels awkward for being a minority, plus he experiences microaggressions. At the same time, Jordan feels too nerdy to fit into his neighborhood’s social scene. Can he learn to be happy and true to himself?
