The Velveteen Rabbit: Or How Toys Become Real
“The Velveteen Rabbit” is a century-old story ...
Front Desk is a novel about one girl’s tribulations during fifth grade. Just like the book’s author Kelly Yang, the main character Mia Tang works at the front desk of her family’s motel. One of her main concerns: Her parents hide undocumented immigrants, which puts the Tangs at risk. Another concern: Mia’s mother keeps discouraging her dream of becoming a writer. Despite these and other issues, Front Desk is upbeat overall. It’s an especially engrossing read for girls in grades 4 to 6.
