The Blackbird Girls

The Blackbird Girls is set in 1980s Ukraine and Russia amid the infamous Chernobyl power plant explosion. Before the explosion, 10-year-old Oksana bullies her classmate Valentina for being Jewish. After the explosion, Oksana and Valentina become true friends as they rely on each other to safely leave their homes and relocate. The story is told from both girls’ perspectives.
