Caddie Woodlawn

Caddie Woodlawn is historical fiction inspired by a tomboy who lived in 1860s Wisconsin. The novel recounts comedic and tragic tales of her frontier life as an 11-year-old.

Carol Brink, the main character’s granddaughter, first published Caddie Woodlawn in 1935. It won a Newbery Medal in 1936 and has since become a classic in American literature for children. 

After reading the book, maybe catch the movie! The 1989 film is on DVD.
